Off-Grid Solar Planning in Midcoast Maine

Plan independent power for a cabin, remote building, homestead, or defined set of loads. Start with what must run, how often it runs, and what happens when several days bring little sun.

Standalone solar, storage, and a realistic backup strategy

Off-grid planning begins with energy use rather than a desired panel count. We review your stated daily loads, seasonal occupancy, and the appliances with demanding starts. The goal is a workable concept for the defined use, with clear limits and a backup strategy.

The concept connects a solar array, charge-control and inverter functions, battery storage, and any separate backup generator. We discuss where equipment could live, the paths between buildings, and which loads should be managed or omitted when energy is scarce. Final equipment ratings and wiring are confirmed in a separately scoped design.

Solar Off-Grid Design Review

$299 · One-time preliminary planning fee

For one property and one system approach. Includes review of your submitted information, one phone or video discussion of up to 30 minutes, and a written concept roadmap.

Your written roadmap includes

A preliminary load-use worksheet based on your stated equipment and hours.

A standalone system concept covering generation, storage, priority loads, and backup.

A written winter-operation and information-gap checklist for the next design stage.

A clear decision to pause, collect better data, or involve a specialist is a useful result too. This review does not guarantee project feasibility, a specific energy output, or utility approval.

What to send

Send a load list with equipment labels or stated ratings and expected operating hours, seasonal occupancy details, candidate array and battery locations, and any existing generator, battery, or inverter models.

Use existing records and safely accessible photos. Do not remove energized equipment covers, climb a roof or tower, or enter a waterway to collect information for this review.

Will the property be used in winter?

A summer camp and a year-round home require different planning. Include heating, refrigeration, water pumping, and unattended operation in the discussion; an average annual electric total alone does not answer those questions.

Choose an accessible equipment location

Tell us whether battery and inverter space will be heated, unheated, damp, or difficult to reach. Final placement and operating limits must follow the selected equipment’s requirements, including its temperature limits.

Confirm the scope before paying

Contact Red Sky with your address and the review name. We will confirm whether the remote review fits your project and send the matching payment link. You keep the written roadmap whether or not Red Sky performs later electrical work.

This is preliminary advisory planning, not a permit-ready or stamped design. Site surveys, wind or water-resource measurement campaigns, detailed equipment specifications, structural and civil engineering, permit applications, utility fees, equipment, and installation are separate services. Any next-stage work is agreed and quoted separately.
