Renewable Energy Planning & Electrical Services in Midcoast Maine

A good renewable-energy project starts with the property, the loads, and a realistic plan. Based in Waldoboro, Red Sky helps Midcoast Maine homeowners, farms, and small businesses sort out solar, small wind, and microhydro options and the electrical work they may require.

Put the right resource to work

A sunny roof, an exposed field, and a flowing stream present very different opportunities. We begin with your actual energy use and site information, then separate what looks promising from what needs better measurements or specialist review. Electrical installation scope is confirmed after the site and equipment are assessed.

Solar

Explore roof or ground-mount concepts, independent power for a remote property, or solar with battery storage and outage planning.

Wind

Small wind begins with exposure at tower height, room for the tower, and a practical maintenance plan. A breezy yard alone does not establish a useful wind resource.

Hydro

Microhydro begins with usable head, dependable flow, access rights, and a permit pathway. A stream or pond on the property does not, by itself, establish feasibility.

Three ways to use the power

Grid-Tied: generation operates alongside utility service. Conventional grid-tied generation generally does not supply the building during a utility outage.

Off-Grid: a standalone system serves defined loads without a utility connection. Storage, backup generation, and energy management are planned around the resource and intended use.

Grid-Interactive: on this site, a utility-connected system with storage and a plan for backup-capable operation. The inverter, controls, and safe isolation equipment must support the intended outage behavior; batteries alone do not establish that capability.

Paid planning, before you buy equipment

Choose a focused preliminary design review from the system pages or our Homeowner Planning page. One-time fees range from $199 for grid-tied solar planning to $449 for a grid-interactive hydro review. Each offer covers one property and one system approach, a review of the information you supply, a phone or video discussion of up to 30 minutes, and a written concept roadmap. Contact us first so we can confirm the scope and send the correct payment link.

The review may conclude that a project needs better data, specialist help, or is not a sensible next step. Equipment, installation, utility charges, site surveys, stamped engineering, structural and civil design, and permit applications are quoted separately when needed.

Maine property, utility, and waterway considerations

Grid-connected projects need the serving utility’s review; net energy billing is a separate eligibility and billing question. Wind tower siting needs local ordinance and structural review. Hydro feasibility requires checking state and, where applicable, federal requirements before changing a waterway.
