Grid-Tied Hydro Planning in Midcoast Maine
Explore a microhydro concept connected to the utility, beginning with available water-resource records and a clear regulatory conversation. Resolve the site questions before buying a turbine.
A water-resource feasibility screen and utility connection roadmap
A grid-connected hydro concept requires both a useful water resource and a workable approval path. Available head and flow affect the opportunity, while seasonal conditions and required waterway protections can limit usable generation. Our paid review is an initial screen based on the information supplied.
We organize the proposed intake or existing waterworks concept, equipment and cable-route questions, the utility connection, and the agencies or specialists that should be consulted. This is an electrical and project-planning roadmap; it does not design a dam, penstock, intake, or water diversion.
Hydro Grid-Tied Design Review
$299 · One-time preliminary planning fee
For one property and one system approach. Includes review of your submitted information, one phone or video discussion of up to 30 minutes, and a written concept roadmap.
Your written roadmap includes
A preliminary resource-and-records feasibility screen.
A state/federal jurisdiction question list and specialist next-step checklist.
A grid-connection and electrical concept roadmap based on the available information.
A clear decision to pause, collect better data, or involve a specialist is a useful result too. This review does not guarantee project feasibility, a specific energy output, or utility approval.
What to send
Send the property and waterway location, photos from safe accessible areas, available head and seasonal-flow records, existing permit or dam documents, and the distance to the electrical service. Identify who controls the relevant land and waterworks.
Use existing records and safely accessible photos. Do not remove energized equipment covers, climb a roof or tower, or enter a waterway to collect information for this review.
Does an old dam establish permission?
Existing infrastructure needs its own records and regulatory review. The presence of a dam or former power equipment does not establish authorization for a new or altered generating project.
Start with the waterway authorities
Maine DEP regulates hydropower work within its jurisdiction, and federal requirements may also apply. Before any stream, intake, or dam work, the project needs a confirmed permitting path. Offsite electrical planning does not replace that review.
Confirm the scope before paying
Contact Red Sky with your address and the review name. We will confirm whether the remote review fits your project and send the matching payment link. You keep the written roadmap whether or not Red Sky performs later electrical work.
This is preliminary advisory planning, not a permit-ready or stamped design. Site surveys, wind or water-resource measurement campaigns, detailed equipment specifications, structural and civil engineering, permit applications, utility fees, equipment, and installation are separate services. Any next-stage work is agreed and quoted separately.
